Amid criticism for avoiding fighting with Tom aspinall and flirt with retirement, Jon Jones expressed immediate interest in tackling Francis Ngannou after his former rival's opening to return to the UFC. On his official 'X' account, the current heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg) was excited about the possibility of facing the French-Cameroonian in the organization.

“I am aware that Francis Ngannou still interested… Now the conversation has gotten serious. This is a real superfight. A clash of champions, not just hype. He was the UFC's linear champion, I defended my belt for over a decade. Two kings from different paths. Not a legend against someone with a momentary moment, but two legitimate legacies colliding. This is the kind of fight that adds something special to my story, at least in my view”, wrote 'Bones'.

Jones' response comes as a direct contrast to the treatment given to Tom aspinall, having ignored him for more than 600 days, ignores the British man's public requests for title unification. The possibility arose after statements by Ngannou's coach, Eric Nicksick, who spoke about the former champion's interest in returning to Dana White's organization.

'Bones' moved up to heavyweight when Ngannou was the champion, but negotiations fell apart due to financial disagreements. After the Cameroonian left in 2023, the American won the vacant belt against Cyryl Gane.

The obstacle, however, is Francis' contract with the PFL, which has an exclusivity clause for MMA until the end of 2025.
