Despite the controversial speech, St-Pierre lived up to his beliefs when he announced his sudden retirement after winning the middleweight belt (up to 83,9 kg) against Michael Bisping. At the time, even with a valid contract with the UFC and a promise that he would remain active after returning to the sport, the Canadian relinquished his title and refused to defend it against the next in line.
