Tom Aspinall gets important advice from MMA legend regarding waiting for Jon Jones

Tom Aspinall 's frustration regarding the delay in officially unifying the belts against Jon Jones is no secret, as he has been expressing it for the past few months. In the opinion of Georges St-Pierre, former two-division champion and one of the greatest legends in UFC history, the Briton should focus his energies on what is within his reach.

In a recent interview with fellow Canadian journalist Ariel Helwani, the Canadian gave Aspinall some important advice. In 'GSP's' opinion, the Briton shouldn't focus exclusively on Jon Jones , as it's still uncertain whether the reigning champion will actually go through with the plan to unify the titles.

“I think Tom needs to focus on the next task. I remember when I lost to Matt Serra, I was making the mistake of trying to focus on Matt Serra to get my rematch immediately, but I had other fights before that. If he's only focusing on Jon Jones and Jon Jones isn't coming back now, he's not focusing on the right thing. He needs to focus on what comes next, because the rest is a distraction. The things that need to happen will happen. I don't know what Jon is going to do, but as a fan, I would love to see that fight, because in terms of legacy and achievements, Jon Jones is the best. I understand Tom, he's a proud fighter and wants to beat the best, but now it all depends on what Jon wants to do, if he still wants to do it, if he's going to be well compensated for it and everything else. Tom shouldn't focus on that, because it's out of his control and he's wasting a lot of energy focusing on it,” St-Pierre advised.

Tom Aspinall became interim champion in November 2023, after knocking out Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. The Briton, who previously defended his title against Curtis Blaydes in July of last year, recently became the longest-reigning interim champion in history, surpassing Brazilian Renan Barão.
