Alex Poatan's loss to Magomed Ankalaev by unanimous decision at UFC 313 in March frustrated not only the Brazilian's fans, but also one of his former victims: Khalil Rountree Jr.
Defeated by Poatan in the Brazilian's last title defense in October 2024, Khalil Rountree commented, in a recent interview with 'MMA Today', on his conqueror's performance in the loss against Magomed Ankalaev. 'War Horse' admitted frustration at feeling that the athlete facing the Russian was nothing like the one who had knocked him out months before.

“It was hard for me to watch that fight and rate it. The Alex that walked into the Octagon that night was different than the Alex that fought me. My experience was watching that fight with frustration. I was confused because I was expecting the same guy that walked in and fought me to do the same thing. I wanted to see what that experience was like from the outside,” Rountree said.
With Magomed Ankalaev reigning as light heavyweight (up to 93 kg), Khalil Rountree Jr. dreams of another title shot. To achieve this, the American will need to overcome his compatriot and former champion Jamahal Hill in a decisive duel on June 21st in Baku, Azerbaijan.
