Leaked? Broadcast 'spotlights' Charles do Bronx's next UFC fight

A message displayed during UFC Vegas 105 , broadcast in Spanish by 'ESPN' on Saturday night (5), stirred up social media by announcing a supposed fight between Charles do Bronx and Ilia Topuria . The ticker — information banner that circulates at the bottom of the screen — indicated that the Brazilian would be responsible for welcoming his opponent in his lightweight debut (up to 70,3kg).

The information, however, was denied hours later by the organization itself. In a note to the 'MMA Mania' portal, the UFC stated that the announcement was a 'mistake' and that 'no agreement is in force' for the fight.

The incident occurred while the card was being broadcast in Hispanic countries. The banner mentioned the fight as part of upcoming UFC events and sparked immediate speculation on social media.

Previously, Charles had already declared his interest in fighting for the belt and denied any desire to welcome Topuria to the division. The Spaniard, in turn, stated that the Brazilian was 'running away' from a fight. The division leader, Islam Makhachev, still has no fight scheduled.

The UFC uses informational banners to promote confirmed or hypothetical fights, but communication errors between production teams are rare. In July 2024, a similar incident occurred when a Canadian broadcast announced Ilia Topuria against Max Holloway , as well as Sean O'Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili . Both fights took place.
