Carlos Prates reveals physical change before facing UFC elite: 'I'm much stronger'

Brazilian increases muscle mass and now cuts weight from 90 kg to compete in the welterweight division

Se Carlos Prates was already considered a problem in the UFC welterweight division (up to 77 kg), now he is an even bigger challenge. A Muay Thai specialist and owner of an impeccable knockout record in the Ultimate, the Brazilian revealed that, after his last fight, he focused on increasing his strength for the next challenge – and the results were positive.

In an interview with 'Home of Fight', the Fighting Nerds smoker explained that, before facing Neil Magny, he only cut about 4 kg to make weight. However, he decided to increase his muscle mass to reach higher levels in the division. Now, Prates starts cutting from 90 kg, which requires greater focus, but he says he feels good and much stronger.

“Before the fight with Neil Magny, I was 81, 82, 83 kg, cutting only 4 kg to make the weight. Then, I spoke to the nutritionist: 'Let's get stronger'. Now, I've been cutting since 90 kg. But I'm fine, I'm much stronger", he said. Carlos Prates.

Signed through the Contender Series, Carlos Prates debuted in the UFC in February 2024 and, in his first year in the organization, he achieved four knockout victories, securing his place in the top 15 of the category by overcoming Neil Magny in his last fight. The Brazilian would have the opportunity to consolidate his position in the rankings against Geoff neal, but the American suffered an injury and had to leave the fight. So far, no official information has been released about the Fighting Nerds representative's next opponent.
