In his first public statement after a tough defeat for Magomed Ankalayev No. UFC 313, Alex Poatán opened up and revealed what his ideal plans were for his career in case of victory. Even if he had successfully defended his fourth title, the Brazilian stated that he would try to change divisions next.

“As I said, it was to defend my belt and if I had the opportunity to make the decision (of what I would do in case of victory) it wouldn’t be (to stay) in my category. It would be heavyweight or it would be a boxing fight,” said Poatan during an interview given to Ariel Helwani.

When asked if a fight against Tom aspinall, Jon Jones and Oleksandar Usyk, Poatan denied any negotiations with UFC regarding these names and made it clear that he had no intention of continuing in the under 93kg division.

“What I’m saying was in my category, the next step I’m sure would be in my category. But if I had the power to choose, I would do either of the two, except my category,” he concluded.
