While preparing for face Paddy Pimblett in the co-main event of UFC 314, Michael chandler keep hearing the name of Conor McGregor. Nearing four years away from the octagon, millions of fans around the world are speculating whether the first double champion in the history of the organization will return to the sport. For the former holder of the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg), this hypothesis is unlikely.

In an interview with the North American website 'MMA fighting' in late February, the fighter was asked about his opinion on the Irishman's future in the sport. Despite admitting that he would like to see McGregor fight again, he acknowledged that it was an unlikely scenario.
“Deep down in my heart, yes (he will come back). Because I think he wants to fight. He doesn’t want to end his legacy the way he did. His last fight was breaking his leg against Dustin poirier and then announcing the greatest comeback in combat sports history and then dropping out with another injury. That’s my heart. Now, my mind, if you’re a betting man, does Conor come back? No. I would give it a slight chance,” he said.
Injuries like these shouldn't be counted as a loss, same goes for Poirier vs McGregor III, Conor stepped back on his leg and Dustin gets the win? https://t.co/cmHR2vJF41 pic.twitter.com/3GvQX2LFXL

When explaining his point of view on why the Irishman still doesn't have a definitive forecast for his return to the UFC, Chandler said he believes McGregor's lifestyle is behind his difficulty in focusing exclusively on MMA.
“I think he’s so caught up in the shiny objects around him that he can’t help but go to a shiny object. With all due respect, you can be the same way, I can be the same way if we had the opportunity. That’s why I’ve never been overly critical of the man, because unless you’ve walked a mile in his shoes, do you have the right to criticize him?”

When referring to the greatest comeback in the history of combat sports, Michael chandler remembers when he and McGregor were married to fight. In early 2023, the two worked as coaches on the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter. However, the fight was only scheduled for the main event of UFC 303, in June 2024. Just two weeks before the clash, the Irishman withdrew from the fight due to a fractured little toe on his left foot. No further dates involving the fighter have been scheduled since then.
