Khamzat Chimaev ignores Gilbert Durinho when choosing the toughest opponent of his career so far

Emirati fighter recalls the difficulty he had in imposing wrestling against former champion; Brazilian was defeated at UFC 273 after an epic battle

Despite starring in a bloody and violent battle with Gilbert Durinho No. UFC 273, Khamzat Shimaev ignored the Brazilian when choosing the biggest challenge of his career so far. In a sincere stance, the middleweight prospect (up to 83,9 kg) recalled the difficulty presented by Kamaru Usman, an athlete who faced him with only two weeks of preparation.

“Probably Usman (the biggest challenge in his career). He defended himself very well against my wrestling. His wrestling is very good. He defended my takedowns well, he didn’t let me choke his neck. I tried to choke him for five minutes, but his defense was very good. So, yes. Probably him,” Chimaev said during an interview with Azamat Chef.

Winning by majority decision, Chimaev had a dominant first round, while trying to finish the former welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg), but ended up not keeping up the pace and had difficulty dealing with Usman's pressure and strategy. At the end of the fight, two judges scored in favor of the Emirati, while one agreed with a draw.

On the other hand, Chimaev, when he played in the welterweight division, had a memorable fight against Gilbert Durinho.
