Melquizael Costa had a dream come true last Saturday (22) at UFC Seattle. The Ultimate featherweight (up to 65,7 kg) defeated the veteran André Fili, home owner, in the preliminary card after finishing it with a guillotine still in the first round. At the post-event press conference, Melquizael revealed how much he admires the opponent he defeated in the octagon. He recalled that in 2014, when he was in his hometown, in Porto de Moz, he watched the fight between André Fili against Max Holloway, one of the stars of the Ultimate. The fighter from Pará said that when he realized he would face the fighter from Seattle, he couldn't contain his excitement.

“I actually had a very emotional week thinking about things, about everything. It actually made me cry when I realized it, because when it finally sunk in, when it hit me, I was fighting a guy that I remember fighting against Max Holloway back in the day, watching him on TV. I thought, 'I'm going to fight this guy,'" he said.

Despite having taken a very important step by defeating Fili in UFC Seattle, Melquizael remains with his feet on the ground and believes that he still does not have the right to challenge anyone in the organization.

“I’m not at the stage where I can really pick and choose opponents, I’m an employee. I want to fight, man, I want to fight. So if they need someone to fill in the gaps, a month, two months, a few weeks, I’ll be ready for that,” he concluded.
