Jon Jones caused a stir on social media when he announced that he would be making a 'big announcement' within the next 24 hours. With the hashtag #StillChampion, the UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg) has aroused the curiosity of his millions of followers. The possibility of a duel against the Tom aspinall was at the center of speculation. However, the expected announcement had nothing to do with the octagon, but with a cause that, for 'Bones', is even more important.
On Thursday afternoon (6), Jones tried to clarify the mystery. 'Bones', as he is known, was not talking about an adversary, but rather about a systemic problem in the United States that has destroyed families and individuals: the lack of transparency in the health system.

“While this may not be a traditional struggle for me, it is obvious that many Americans are being hurt and forced into medical debt or even bankruptcy due to a greedy healthcare system,” he wrote in a post on his official profile.
With a combative tone, the current UFC champion highlighted the devastating consequences of the opacity of medical service prices in the country, which prevents people from making informed decisions about their health care. He used his own experience to illustrate the negative impact of this system on the most vulnerable communities. He spoke of friends, family and neighbors who avoid medical treatment for fear of costs and unexpected bills.
“What they call ‘estimates’ are a lie. Corporate greed is bankrupting people and families across the country,” the fighter said.
The big surprise, however, was the fighter's support for the initiative 'Power to the Patients' (Power to Patients), which advocates for transparency in hospital prices in the United States. The campaign gained momentum with new federal legislation requiring all hospitals to post their true prices online. According to the campaign, the change will allow Americans to see their true costs before they receive care for the first time.
Jon Jones, 37, has a MMA record of 28 wins and just one loss. His only setback came in 2009 against Matt Hamill after a controversial disqualification. 'Bones' is widely recognized for his victories over big names such as Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustafson, Shogun Street and Vitor belfort.
While this may not be a traditional fight for me, it's obvious that too many Americans are being hurt and forced into medical debt or bankruptcy by a Healthcare System so greedy that hospitals and insurers hide their actual prices so they can charge us whatever they want.
