TJ Dillashaw fires back at defeated UFC 311 fighter: 'He'll never be champion'

For Dillashaw, as much as one of the athletes defeated at UFC 311 is a fan favorite, he doesn't have what it takes to become champion.

Former Ultimate bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg.), TJ Dillashaw did not spare criticism of one of the defeated athletes in UFC 311. Even with two title fights at the event, including one in his former weight class, the American moved his attention to the first fight of the main card, between Ridder's Reinier e Kevin holland. For TJ Dillashaw, Holland's mindset is behind his failure to win the organization's title.

In an interview on the North American podcast 'JAXXON', one of whose presenters is the former light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg.) Quinton jackson, Dillashaw recalled some of Holland's statements and stated that in his opinion, the fighter will never be able to be the best in the world in his weight class.

“He’s a very entertaining fighter, he talks a lot, but he’ll never be a champion. I promise you that. He’s got some flaws in his game. Are you going to be a champion if you don’t care? No, you have to be obsessed with it every day of your life. You have to be OCD about training, being the best and not missing a workout. He’s talking about bringing training partners and going home and smoking. Just sitting here and listening to him talk and watching him on TV, he doesn’t have the mentality for that, he’s just happy to be on TV,” he said.

Present in the UFC since 2018, Holland competes in both the welterweight (up to 77,1 kg) and middleweight (up to 83,9 kg), and has victories over names such as Ronaldo Jacare e Joaquin buckley. Despite this, the American is not going through a good phase. In the last five appearances, he has been defeated on four occasions. The fighter classified his performance as 'garbage' and promised to improve in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“I’ve been feeling really bad lately… I have to clean this shit up,” he said.

Bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg.) on two occasions, TJ Dillashaw has victories over big names in the sport, such as Renan Barao, cody garbrandt and Cory Sandhangen. He declared retirement at the end of 2022 due to a series of injuries, including chronic shoulder problems.

Despite having a very successful career, one of the biggest controversies in his career is associated with the use of doping. He was suspended for two years for using the substance EPO, after being knocked out in 32 seconds by Henry Cejudo in an attempt to win the flyweight title (up to 56,7 kg).
