It didn't work out for the Brazilian! In the main fight of the UFC 311, held this Saturday (18), in California, Islam makhachev maintained favoritism and, after a scare, overthrew Renato Moicano and finished him with a choke. With the victory, the Dagestani surpassed his mentor Khabib Nurmagomedov and became the fighter with the most title defenses in the lightweight division (up to 70,3 kg) in the UFC.

Now, at 34 years old, Islam has achieved his 27th career triumph and, with 15 consecutive victories in the Ultimate, he has come close to the record of 16 consecutive victories in the UFC, belonging to Anderson Silva. Already Mohican, who agreed to face the champion with just one day's notice, suffered the sixth defeat in his professional career.

The athletes began by studying each other, with mirrored stances, leaving their front hand to establish distance. Halfway through the round, Moicano landed a right hand that knocked the champion off balance. In danger while standing, the Dagestani tried his first takedown of the fight. After the Brazilian tried to get up, Makhachev applied a choke and finished the fight.
In an interview with Joe Rogan after the fight, Islam made it clear that he is always looking to finish his opponents and that, despite not liking to talk much, he takes any opportunity to end the fight when it arises. Raising his belt, he stated that he does not mind accepting last-minute fights and highlighted that any opponent who is willing to fight and make weight can challenge him in the octagon.
“I always look for the finish. I’m not one to talk, but if someone gives me the opening, I’ll end the fight… It doesn’t matter to me (accepting the fight at the last minute), whoever makes the weight can enter the octagon and stand in front of me and I’ll fight. I like this belt, if someone wants this belt, they can enter the octagon,” said the champion.
