Before being announced for the main fight of UFC 312, scheduled for next month, the middleweight champion (up to 84 kg) Dricus du Plessis had his name linked to a possible fight against Alex Poatán. Although confrontation is out of the question at the moment, Caio Borralho, who recently trained with the light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg), assessed what a clash between the Brazilian and the South African would be like.

In an interview with Submission Radio, Borralho stated that Poatan has the potential to knock out Du Plessis easily, since, according to him, the South African makes a lot of mistakes and leaves openings during fights. The Brazilian believes that any opening against a fighter of the light heavyweight champion's level can result in an immediate knockout.

Borralho points to Chimaev as a greater challenge for Poatan

Despite believing that Alex Poatán would defeat Dricus Du Plessis with ease, Caio Borralho recognized that Khamzat Shimaev would represent a more dangerous challenge for the Brazilian. The Fighting Nerds fighter, who has also trained with the Chechen, praised “Lobo’s” grappling skills, but highlighted that his compatriot has been improving in takedown defense.
