UFC veteran approaches Demian Maia's record and reinforces motivations to continue his career

On the preliminary card of UFC 310, Michael chiesa won his seventh victory by rear naked choke in the UFC, second only to Demian Maia, who leads the organization's history. At 37 years old, the veteran, who accumulated three consecutive losses before winning his last two fights, found a new motivation to keep his career active.

“I saw that I tied with Kenny Florian with seven rear naked choke submissions – now I need to achieve the big one Demian Maia and try to get past nine. That created another little goal for me. Obviously, the goal remains the same. I want to be world champion; otherwise, what’s the point of fighting? If you don’t think you’re the best in the world, if you’re not going after the title, why the hell are you doing it?” Chiesa said.
