Viviane Araújo used her experience combined with her well-rounded game to defeat Karine 'Killer' Silva by unanimous decision in the second fight of the UFC 309 main card . After Mauricio Ruffy's victory in the first fight, the veteran silenced the critics, ended her compatriot's favoritism, and returned to the win column.

Viviane Araújo 's footwork proved a challenge for Karine right from the start of the fight. In the first five minutes, the 37-year-old fighter danced all over the octagon, connecting with precise and quick straight punches, while 'Killer' tried to hunt down her opponent and land powerful blows.
Araújo came back more aggressive in the second round, still moving quickly. However, Karine managed to land a hard blow against the fence, later managing to take her down from the clinch. At a disadvantage, Viviane almost ended the fight with an armbar, set up from the guard. In the final part of the round, Karine still threatened her rival with an arm triangle.

'Killer's' fatigue seemed to make a difference in the third round. On two occasions, the fighter from Mato Grosso do Sul fell to the ground after having her opponent's kicks blocked. Araújo, on the other hand, kept dancing and landing good blows. At the end of the fight, the fighter took Karine down with a hip drop.
At the end of the fight, all the judges scored it 29-28 in favor of Viviane Araújo , who won by unanimous decision and broke Karine 'Killer's' nine-fight winning streak.
