UFC commentator Joe Rogan has reignited the debate over immigration in the United States on his podcast, 'The Rogan Experience', during a conversation with Senator John Fetterman. The discussion, which took on new dimensions with the recent re-election of Donald Trump to the presidency, exposed fears about possible electoral manipulation and reinforced the focus on restrictive immigration policies.

Rogan, known for his controversial views, addressed concerns about granting citizenship to undocumented immigrants, particularly in swing states, saying there is widespread fear that the practice is part of a strategy to increase the number of voters sympathetic to the Democratic Party.

“There are a significant number of these people who are illegal immigrants who have made their way to swing states and so there have been calls for amnesty. There have been calls to allow these people to have a path to citizenship and to vote,” Joe Rogan said in an interview on his podcast 'The Rogan Experience'.

UFC commentator expresses concerns about food and housing

The central argument revolves around access to social benefits such as food and housing, supposedly aimed at this group, consequently favoring voting for Democratic candidates.

“So you would have voters who would significantly vote for Democrats because they are the people who allowed them into the country in the first place and provided these services. That’s a big fear that people have and that you are rigging this system,” the commentator added.

The commentator expressed fears that this alleged maneuver would transform these states into unquestionable strongholds of the party, similar to what is observed in California.

“The fear that a lot of people have is that this is a coordinated effort to take these people that you’re allowing into the country. So you’re providing them with all sorts of services like food stamps and housing and getting them settled and then providing a path to amnesty,” he concluded.

Controversial UFC commentator, Joe Rogan has more than 10 million followers on social media, in addition to his vast experience in the area of sports commentary, he has established himself as one of the main names in world MMA.

Donald Trump on immigration policies

Trump's victory in the presidential election added a new chapter to the narrative. The Republican, who had already implemented strict immigration policies during his first term, promised to further toughen actions against illegal immigration.

His proposals include expanding the wall on the border with Mexico, resuming previous policies and carrying out the largest mass deportation in US history.

Trump attributes the entry of illegal immigrants to an increase in crime, a claim that, according to the FBI, is not supported by concrete data, since the agency recorded a drop in violent crime rates in the country in September 2024.

How many immigrants are there in the United States?

The scenario presented by Rogan and Trump’s promises contrast with the reality of immigration in the United States. The country has long been home to the largest immigrant population in the world – a fifth of the global total.

In 2023, the number reached a record 47,8 million, with an increase of 1,6 million compared to the previous year, the largest annual increase in more than two decades. The Brazilian community in the United States is also significant, with around 1,9 million immigrants, according to data from Itamaraty.

Trump's promise to intensify restrictive measures points to a hardening of immigration policies in the coming years, with consequences that still appear uncertain in the American social, economic and political context.
