If the one who warns is a friend, it is possible to say that Daniel Cormier is a friend of Magomed Ankalayev. That's because the former light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) and heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) champion and current UFC commentator gave the Russian important advice regarding a possible title fight against Alex Poatán.
During a 'question and answer' session before the weigh-in UFC Edmonton, last Friday (1), Cormier answered a question from a fan about what he thought of the victory of Magomed Ankalayev about Aleksandr Rakic No. UFC 308. The former champion praised the Russian, but advised him to opt for a different approach to stand-up fighting in case of a fight with Poatan.

“I think he (Ankalaev) fought well. He’s a tough guy. He didn’t wrestle at any point. I don’t know if he was kind of showing us that he’s willing to trade with Poatan. I don’t know if it would be a good choice, but he’s very good. I think he fought well and Rakic fought well too. I thought it was a good fight. When you get to the elite of the elite, sometimes fights are like that, but I think we saw a good fight,” he said.
Magomed Ankalayev is ranked first in the light heavyweight rankings and has been campaigning heavily on social media for a chance to face Alex Poatán, who has yet to define his next step in the organization after defending the title against Khalil rountree No. UFC 307, in October.
