One of the most feared UFC fighters of the last decade, Tony Ferguson has experienced one of the most brutal defeats in the history of sports. Without a win since 2019, the American has accumulated eight consecutive defeats, five of which were by quick means. In a completely discouraging scenario, the former interim lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) does not seem to have the slightest intention of hanging up his gloves.

“No way. I’m not retiring. I’m too old to retire. I’ll probably spend the rest of the season out of action, but I’ll be back in full force in January or February. What I need is to find a new coach, a discipline so I can feel uncomfortable in training again and not suffer in the fight,” said the fighter, who turned 40 in 2024, during a conversation with Demetrious Johnson, on the YouTube channel of the former UFC flyweight champion (56,7 kg.).

In its last performance, 'el cucuy' was finished by Michael chiesa still in the first round, in August of this year. At that time, he indicated a possible retirement inside the octagon, but it seems that now the plans have changed.

Given the situation, many fans around the world are wondering what to do to protect the legacy, and above all, the health of one of the most notorious and successful fighters that the most populous MMA category has ever seen. Charles of the Bronx, former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg.) and a former opponent of Ferguson, it is up to the UFC to find a way to keep him competitive.

“He deserves all the respect in the world just for continuing to fight, he deserves a standing ovation for everything he’s done. But I think the UFC should also help him out and put him against someone (his own age) so they can put on a show and we applaud them. The guy doesn’t want to retire, so why not get someone with the same age? vibe to make a big fight? That would be great,” said the Brazilian.
