Although Alex Poatán is in his best phase and is considered one of the best strikers in MMA, the coach of Dricus du Plessis, Morne Visser, saw some 'glaring flaws' from the Brazilian in the fight against Khalil rountree that they can explore.

In a recent interview with Submission Radio after the UFC 307, Visser said the light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg.) does not fight well when he is forced to retreat.

In his analysis, the coach predicted that du Plessis would take control and pressure Poatan to fight defensively if they faced each other inside the Octagon. He also added that they could defeat the Brazilian in striking without having to resort to wrestling.

“I’ve seen him on his defensive foot where he’s really, really shit. This game, Dricus has been working forever. There’s no way to fix becoming a wrestler, or a grappler or a standup fighter in six months really. He’s been great coming forward forever. That’s where you have to stop him, coming forward. I’ve seen him looking really, really shit on his retreat,” he pointed out.

Current middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg.), Dricus du Plessis is apparently one of the most physical athletes in the division. While Poatan expressed a desire to move up to middleweight and fight the South African fighter, Morne Visser stated that du Plessis would be more dangerous if he moved up to light heavyweight.

“Every guy in the division that Dricus has faced has complained about his power and how physical and strong he is. He’s actually a bona fide light heavyweight. We work really hard to keep his weight down and we work really hard on his diet and obviously we do a decent cut. So it’s not easy and Dricus is going to have fun [moving up to light heavyweight]. I promise you he’s going to be a different animal at light heavyweight,” the trainer concluded.
