Middleweights and heavyweights can rest easy. After all, Alex Poatán backtracked and stated that his immediate future after the confrontation against Khalil rountree in the main fight of UFC 307 should be maintained in the light heavyweights (up to 93 kg).
During the media day of the UFC 307, held last Wednesday (2), the light heavyweight champion, who recently reaffirmed his interest in returning to middleweight to face the champion Dricus Du Plessis, went back on his word and assured that, if he could choose, he would continue to defend the belt in the up to 93 kg division.

“I would choose to defend my belt, because it takes planning to cut weight and also planning to move up in weight, but it’s perfect for this division,” said Poatan.
Before showing interest in returning to 84 kg, Alex Poatán had been campaigning for a chance to fight in the heavyweight division and seek a third belt in the organization, whether against Jon Jones or against Tom aspinall. Recently, the Brazilian recorded a meeting with 'Bones', but practically ruled out a confrontation.
Last Wednesday, Poatan spoke again about his relationship with Jones and, once again, said that he is more interested in training with the heavyweight champion than in facing him.
“He made it very clear that he will only have one more fight and then he will retire. I am not even in his division, so I am far from getting that fight. I have an open mind to train and learning something from him is definitely something I would do,” he concluded.
Alex Poatán defends the light heavyweight belt for the third time against Khalil Rountree Jr. in the main fight of UFC 307, this Saturday (5), in Salt Lake City, in the United States.
