UFC Las Vegas 97 , which takes place this Saturday (7), at the Apex, suffered an important setback just days before it takes place. It is the Brazilian flyweight (up to 56,7 kg) Alessandro Costa , who was to face the American Matt Schnell on the main card, but had to leave the event due to a shoulder injury.
The Brazilian's absence was initially revealed by Matt Schnell through a video posted on YouTube. The expectation is that the organization will not be looking for a replacement for the Brazilian at Saturday's event.

A training partner of Diego Lopes and Alexa Grasso in Mexico, Alessandro Costa joined the UFC in December 2022 and has a record of two wins and two losses in the organization. The Paraense fighter is coming off a knockout victory over Kevin Borjas in May of this year in Rio de Janeiro.
Ranked eleventh in the flyweight division, Matt Schnell is going through a difficult period in the organization, with three losses in his last four fights. The American is coming off consecutive knockout losses against Matheus Nicolau and, more recently, Steve Erceg in March of this year.
Without Alessandro Costa and Matt Schnell , UFC Las Vegas 97 takes place this Saturday (7), starting at 17 pm (Brasilia time) and has as its main attraction the duel between welterweights (up to 77,1 kg) Gilbert Durinho and Sean Brady.
