Dustin Poirier reignites rivalry and criticizes Conor McGregor's departure from UFC 303: 'A little finger?'

The 'Diamante' minimized the injury that took the Irishman out of the June 29th card and left the door open for a quadrilogy with the 'Notório'

One of the rivalries that most marked MMA at the beginning of the decade may be resurfacing to the delight of fans. In an interview with 'MMA Hour', the former interim lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) teased Conor McGregor and criticized the Irishman's departure from UFC 303, where he would face Michael chandler.

“A little finger? I've struggled with so many injuries. Like Conor said, he's fought with so many injuries, I've fought with so many injuries over the years, but a pinky finger doesn't seem like a reason to back out of a fight. Giving him his respect, I don’t know how serious it is either,” Poirier said.

The 'Diamond' also commented on the provocations he always receives from McGregor on social media and left the door open for a fourth fight between them.

“He crossed lines you can’t come back from. I want to whip his ass when I see the tweets. He's trying to take this away from me. He wants me to tease him back. Of course I want to say something back and try to set up a fight with him, but it is what it is. We've had a lot of comings and goings over the years, since 2014”, concluded 'Diamante'.

Poirier and McGregor have already become 'close enemies' after sharing the Octagon three times. In the first duel, still at featherweight (up to 65,7kg), it took place in September 2014 and ended with the Irishman winning by knockout. The rematch took place just over six years later and the American returned the defeat by beating 'Notório' using the same method.

About six months later, in UFC 264, the organization held one of the greatest trilogies in the history of the sport. However, the duel ended sadly, after McGregor fractured his leg after an attempted kick and the confrontation was interrupted in the first round with Poirier's technical knockout victory.
