Victim of a harsh defeat to Sean Strickland on the main card of UFC 302, Paulo borrachinha opened the game and recalled the coaches' point of view after the last bell of the fight sounded. According to the Brazilian, his team had scored three rounds to two against their rival, but they were in doubt about judging the fifth round. Despite his conviction, the athlete was defeated in a split decision.
“I thought I was winning the fight against Sean. My corner told me that I certainly won the first round, that in the second they believed I had won too, but that they might not accept that, you never know. The third round (they said) I lost, the fourth round, but the fifth I won. They didn't believe that the last 10 seconds would give him the fight. Yes, he had come forward, but without landing a clear blow,” Borrachinha told The MMA Hour.

As he continued his speech, Borrachinha promised to return to his aggressive style in future appearances in the Octagon.
“We were in doubt whether the fifth round was for me or him. When I looked at the scores, two judges gave four rounds to Sean and only one gave me the win. So I say, 'Okay, guys. See, fuck the points. I don't know what the scores are like, I'm not a guy who goes for the points. I'm just going to go up and end the fights, that's my style. That brought me here and I’m going to be like that again,” he concluded.
