After a documentary produced by the UFC portrays the moment in which Ali Abdelaziz tells Dana White that Kamaru Usman had asked Stephen Thompson rather than Shavkat Rakhmonov for a duel, the Nigerian went public to explain the episode. Irritated by the criticism received, the former champion stated that he is not afraid of challenges and opened the door to facing a training partner in the future.
“This was done a year ago. After that, guess what? I got in there nine days in advance and fought possibly the most dangerous guy in the UFC at that time, Khamzat Shimaev. So what are you saying? There is nothing to say. When I get back to the octagon, I don't want to know who it will be. If it's cousin John, if it's this guy, if it's that guy, if it's Shavkat, if it's 'JDM' (Jack Della Maddalena), if the Leon edwards or if it's Belal, I don't care who it is. When I'm ready to get back in the Octagon and I want to fight someone, I don't give a fuck, I'll fight whoever I need to fight,” Usman said on the podcast Pound 4 Pound.

Inactive since defeat to Khamzat Shimaev No. UFC 294, Kamaru expects to fight again for the organization. First placed in the welterweight category (up to 77,1kg), the athlete shows that he is willing to face a training partner in his next appearance. On the other hand, Shavkat is also not unwilling to engage in combat.
