Dricus Du Plessis justifies refusing to fight Israel Adesanya at UFC 300

The middleweight champion called his decision 'intelligent' and stated that he will not risk his reign by accepting last-minute fights

Initially, one of Ultimate's ideas was to escalate the duel between Dricus Du Plessis x Israel adesanya for the main fight of the history UFC 300, held on April 13th. However, in an interview with the 'Fight Wave' channel, the middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) justified his refusal to take part in the fight and explained the reasons for his decision.

“This is your career, you have to be smart. Look Alexander Volkanovsky… faced another champion (Islam makhachev) arriving on the scene weeks in advance. This is so fucked up, but what happened? What advantages did this bring you? Yes, he made money, but that's not why I do it. He made money, but he got knocked out because he obviously didn't have time to prepare for that fight. Do you think someone said 'oh, but he accepted at the last minute'? No, everyone said 'he was knocked out',” said Du Plessis.

Without Du Plessis and Adesanya, the main fight of UFC 300 was in charge of Alex Poatán e Jamahal hill. The duel ended quickly after the Brazilian knocked out his rival in the first round and successfully defended the light heavyweight belt.
