Ian Garry reveals reason for ignoring ranking and agreeing to face new UFC star

Irishman guarantees to be levels above Michael Page and wants to prove the fact to the fans; athletes face each other on June 29, at UFC 303

Scheduled to perform on June 29th at UFC 303, Ian Machado Garry opened the game and explained why he went against the previous statement and agreed to face Michael Page. Deciding not to accept confrontations against athletes behind the rankings, the Irishman ended up contradicting himself and explained why he chose to fight against the Englishman.

“I wasn’t interested in this fight at all, I’m not going to lie. I was looking for a top five opponent, but there was no one available above me to fight. So now I had no choice if I wanted to fight but to look down and think, 'Who's the biggest name? Who is the biggest test that UFC fans want to see me face?'. Everyone said that Michael Page He was the guy I was supposed to fight, but I wasn't interested in fighting him at all,” he said. Ian Gary in an interview with Lucky Block.

As he continued speaking, the Irishman expressed confidence and claimed to be levels above his next opponent.

“I believe I'm levels above him in every way, shape, and form, and this is just an opportunity to show that, to prove that to people. I can say, 'Do you think this guy is good? Okay, we'll see when he shows up on June 29th in Las Vegas. Let’s see when we’re in the Octagon, I’ll use him as an example,” he concluded.

Present on the main card of the event, Ian Gary e Michael Page face each other at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas (USA) on June 29th. Among the 15 best welterweights (up to 77,1kg), the fighters are expected to get closer to the belt if they win.
