When the duel between Justin gaethje e Max Holloway was announced for the UFC 300, many MMA fans questioned the decision of the then owner of the 'BMF' belt (more thick-skinned), as he was very close to fighting for the lightweight title (under 70,3kg). In an interview with 'MMA Knockout', the veteran ex-Bellator denied any regrets about accepting the confrontation against the 'Blessed'.

“It’s a crazy sport. I think a lot of people in my position would have decided not to take the Holloway fight. I'm not sorry. I had a lot of fun. I think it was such a huge and historic event for the UFC, that being part of it, being the best fight on the card, will last forever. It was a huge risk. I failed, but if I had won that fight, if I had knocked him out quickly, I would have accepted the fight against Islam makhachev. It’s just from the game,” Gaethje said.
Current number three in the lightweight ranking, Justin had been on the back of two consecutive victories and reached UFC 300 with the position of owner of the 'BMF' belt. However, the veteran ex-Bellator succumbed to a masterful performance by Max Holloway and suffered an apotheotic knockout in the last second of the fight.
