Poatan reveals that he predicted the 'best scenario' for a new fight on May 4, but injuries to both feet prevented him from appearing on the UFC Rio card

Despite the Brazilian fans' excitement at the possibility of seeing him in action in the UFC 301, in Rio de Janeiro, the light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg.), Alex Poatán, had to postpone his plans. In an interview with MMA Fighting's 'Trocação Franca' podcast, the fighter revealed that he will not be able to perform at the event due to foot injuries. The card takes place on May 4th.

“If it's a longer period, I'd prefer to defend my belt. If it takes a long time, I fight at heavyweight and I have injuries, when will I defend the belt? I don't want to delay the division. I was imagining the best case scenario, but I have two broken toes. Both feet are f***ed,” said Poatan, showing frustration with the situation.

The Brazilian, who collects titles in MMA and in Kickboxing, he came from an impressive sequence of victories in the UFC, including devastating knockouts over Jiri Prochazka e Jamahal hill.

The expectation was that he would continue his dominant trajectory in the organization, but injuries forced him to hit the brakes. The fighter still does not have an estimated return in Ultimate.
