The Brazilian Deiveson Figueiredo remains undefeated in the bantamweight division (up to 61,2kg). In the opening fight of the historic UFC 300, the former flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg) withstood the pressure and good boxing from cody garbrandt, and, in the second round, he secured a rear naked choke and defeated the North American.
The first round passed in a balanced manner and with a lot of study on the part of both athletes. Both Deiveson and Gabrandt respected the firepower of their opponents' hands and avoided exposing themselves too much, keeping the fight medium to long.
However, in the second half, Garbrandt returned more aggressive and landed a beautiful cross that shook Deiveson and made him groggy for a few seconds. Fearing that he would be knocked out, the former champion quickly put the American down and remained in a dominant position. For a few minutes, the Brazilian insisted on trying the katagatame but Cody managed to defend himself well and push the Brazilian away.
However, in the final minute, Garbrandt opened the gap and Deiveson intelligently secured the rear naked choke. The North American tried to resist again but ended up giving up and forcing the referee to stop the fight. It was the second consecutive victory for Deiveson Figueiredo in two bantamweight fights.
