Once considered one of the biggest promises in the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg) in Ultimate, Tyson Peter wrote his last chapter in the organization in the co-main fight of UFC Las Vegas 87, when he ended up defeated by the Brazilian Victor Petrino and announced his retirement while still in the Octagon, complete with a joke about his financial condition.

Immediately after the interview Victor Petrino, winner of the duel, Tyson Peter asked for the floor to make public his decision to hang up his gloves. According to the fighter, time away from his family was the main factor that led him to make this decision.

“Thank you to all the fans, I wanted to thank the UFC so much for everything they did for me on this journey. A special thank you to my team and everyone who helped me reach this stage in my martial arts career. It was amazing, but my intention was always to show my daughter that as long as you work hard at what you love, you can make all your dreams come true and my dream just changed at that point. So, that's it for me. I don’t think it’s goodbye, but I’ll see you in the future,” she said.

Showing good humor, Pedro joked about his financial condition as a retiree. The UFC light heavyweight stated that he would have to 'rob someone in the parking lot' to deal with the costs of the defeat he suffered against Victor Petrino.

“Retirement has been on my mind a bit lately. Mainly because I'm away from my daughter. I've been away from my wife and my baby for probably 12 months in the last 2 and a half years, so obviously my choice is to go back to New Zealand. I know that's where I'm going to be the best martial artist I can be. Putting all the costs, the costs on my family, I can't do this anymore. With the discounts and the loss in today's fight, tonight I'll probably need to rob someone in the parking lot. If anyone has money there. Who has more money?” joked the now former UFC fighter.
