As usual in the world of MMA, athletes who retire after fights gain the spotlight to speak for the last time in the octagon. Despite tradition, Henry Cejudo he didn't have the opportunity to send a message to the fans and confirm his last fight in Ultimate. According to Dana White, the reason it didn't happen was out of respect for the victory of Merab Dvalishvili.

“Merab got in there tonight and defeated former champion Henry Cejudo. Cejudo had already retired. He's already done that whole thing about putting his gloves on the ground. That night was Merab's night. He went there and fought the number three, former champion. He easily won the fight. That was Merab's night. If Cejudo wants to retire again, he can do it here or elsewhere. You don't give Cejudo the microphone tonight. Tonight belongs to Merab”, declared Dana at a press conference after UFC 298.

Present on the main card of the event, Merab and Cejudo faced each other for three rounds and left the fight in the hands of the judges. In a dominant and impeccable performance, the Georgian secured victory in the unanimous decision and asked for the opportunity to compete for the bantamweight title (up to 61,2kg) afterwards.

In a statement made throughout the week before the fight, Cejudo stated that he would go for 'all or nothing' against his rival and guaranteed that he would retire from the sport in case of defeat in the UFC 298. So far, the athlete has not commented on the matter.
