Even when he was bantamweight champion (up to 61,2kg), aljamain sterling I didn't hide the fact that I found it very difficult to reach the weight limit for the category. In an interview with 'MMA Fighting', the 'Funk Master' recalled the moments of suffering he went through during fight week and showed relief at finally being able to move up a division.

“Just thinking about it (cutting down to 61 kg) gives me a headache and nausea. People say I look good (in bantamweight) and I don't look like I'm in pain: 'Oh, you had a great weight cut.' And I'm literally dying inside. I can disguise it as much as I want, because mentally I've always been like that. Don't show weakness like that, you always try to show people that you're okay even when you're not. But I know I've been hurting for a long, long time. And I think my last performances weren't the best because of that. I think I leave a little of myself at the gym. In terms of gas, I don't have the same as I used to have. So I’m looking forward to seeing what that looks like at 66 pounds and seeing if I can get back (to my peak),” Sterling said.
Bantamweight champion from 2021 to 2023, Sterling was dethroned by Sean O'Malley last August. After the setback, the 'Funk Master' announced his move up to featherweight and will debut in the new category against the experienced Calvin kattar in history UFC 300, which takes place on April 13th, in Las Vegas (USA).
