Du Plessis provokes Borrachinha and rules out facing him for the UFC belt

Dricus Du Plessis, who became middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) of the UFC last Saturday (20/01), he already has plans for his future in the organization. In an interview with UFC Brasil, the South African stated that he intends to defend his title in the under-83,9kg category and that he does not see Paulo borrachinha as a possible opponent.

Du Plessis, who won Sean Strickland via split decision in an even fight, he said he wasn't impressed with the North American's performance and that he's ready to face anyone in the division. However, he ruled out the possibility of facing the winner of the duel between Robert whittaker and Borrachinha, which is scheduled for the UFC 298, in February.

“I don't think they're fighting for the title shot. Whittaker already had his chance and lost. He needs one or two more wins to deserve another opportunity. And Borrachinha? He has five canceled fights and one loss. He is not reliable. He needs to prove that he can fight without problems and without excuses. I have no interest in facing him”, declared the champion.

Borrachinha, who is 32 years old and has a record of 14 wins and two losses, has a fight scheduled against Robert whittaker No. UFC 298. The Brazilian, since his last appearance against Luke Rockhold, in August 2022, saw several fights canceled for various reasons, such as injuries, infections and visa issues.
