Brazilian ignores duel with Whittaker and wants to face South African, who became middleweight champion at UFC 297

Paulo borrachinha He wasted no time and already aimed at his next target in the UFC. After the victory of Dricus du Plessis about Sean Strickland, which gave the South African the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg.), Borrachinha used social media to challenge the new champion and ask for a chance to compete for the title.

“Give him to me, daddy”, wrote the number six in the category ranking on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), in response to a post by UFC president, Dana White, who praised Du Plessis’ performance in the UFC’s main event. UFC 297, held last Saturday (20/01), in Toronto, Canada.

Borrachinha, who has 14 wins and two losses in his career, is scheduled to face the former champion Robert whittaker No. UFC 298, in February, in Australia. However, the Brazilian seems to be more interested in facing the new owner of the belt, who became the first South African and the second African to win the middleweight title, after Israel adesanya.

Du Plessis, who has 21 victories and two setbacks on his record, beat Strickland by split decision, in a very balanced and bloody fight. The result generated controversy among fans and the specialized media, who were divided between Sean and Dricus' victory.

After the fight, Du Plessis asked for Adesanya to return to the octagon, remembering that the two have an old rivalry. The Nigerian, who lost the belt to Strickland in September 2023, announced that he would take a long break after an intense series of fights.
