Israel Adesanya receives sentence after drunk driving arrest

The former doctors' champion was found guilty by New Zealand justice and will have to pay a fine, in addition to serving some punishments.

After being arrested for drunk driving in 2023, the Nigerian Israel adesanya had his sentence decreed by the courts. This Wednesday (10), the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg) was found guilty by the courts in Auckland, New Zealand and will have to serve a series of punishments, in addition to a fine. The information was released by the ‘NZ Stuff’ channel.

The former middleweight champion was found guilty by a court in Auckland, New Zealand. Adesanya will have to pay a fine of US$1.500 (about R$7,3) to a charity, was banned from driving for six months and will also have to take a course to stop driving under the influence of alcohol. The Nigerian's arrest took place on August 19, 2022.

Adesanya's last engagement in the Octagon came in September 2023, when he was surprisingly overruled by Sean Strickland and ended up losing the middleweight belt. At 34 years old, the Nigerian has a record in the sport of 24 triumphs and only three setbacks.

Former middleweight champion and UFC contract since 2018, Adesanya has already beaten names like Alex Poatán, Robert whittaker, Marvin vettori, Paulo borrachinha e Yoel romero. The Nigerian has already stated that he plans to return to fight in 2024.
