Conor McGregor is being investigated by Irish police for allegedly making hateful comments on social media. The star of UFC reportedly spoke out in a violent and xenophobic manner following a knife attack that left five people injured, including three children, at a Dublin school last week.
According to The Times newspaper, McGregor had demanded that the perpetrator of the attack, a man of Algerian origin, be tortured and killed as punishment for his crimes. He also reportedly stated that he would take matters into his own hands if the government did nothing to protect the Irish people from criminal immigrants.

Conor's comments caused outrage among some internet users, who accused him of inciting hatred and violence against ethnic and religious minorities. Irish police have opened an investigation to determine whether the fighter violated the law prohibiting hate speech crimes. The code provides for fines, imprisonment or both, depending on the severity of the case.
McGregor is not the only one to be targeted by police because of his statements. On Thursday, the Irish capital was the scene of social unrest caused by far-right groups who took advantage of the tense climate to attack stores, vehicles and people. Police made dozens of arrests and used water cannons to disperse protesters.
