UFC São Paulo: Malhadinho breaks Brazil's record in main fights in the country

O UFC Sao Paulo, held last Saturday (4), at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium, its main fight was the duel between Jailton Malhadinho e Derrick Lewis, in the heavy category (up to 120,2kg.). The fight marked the tiebreaker in the retrospective of the main fights that had taken place in Brazil in recent years, in which the country had won two and lost two.

Malhadinho showed his superiority in the takedown game and control on the ground, and dominated Lewis for more than 21 minutes of the expected 25, breaking the all-time heavyweight record.

The Bahian won by unanimous decision from the judges and reached his sixth consecutive victory in the UFC, remaining undefeated in the organization. After the triumph, he challenged Cyryl Gane, number 1 in the heavyweight rankings and currently without a fight scheduled, for a confrontation.

With Malhadinho's victory, Brazil once again had a recent positive result in the main fight in the country. In November 2019, in UFC Sao Paulo, Ronaldo Jacaré was surpassed by Jan Blachowicz in a split decision by the judges, in a balanced fight between light heavyweights.

No UFC 237, in May 2019 in Rio de Janeiro, Rose namajunas tried to defend the strawweight belt against Jessica Stackerbut ended up being knocked out with a spectacular fall in the second round.

About ten months later, in UFC Brasilia without an audience due to COVID-19, Charles do Bronx submitted Kevin Lee with a guillotine in the third round, in a dominant performance for the lightweight division. However, the tide turned on UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro in January this year, when Glover Teixeira was surpassed by Jamahal Hill.
