Increasingly engaged in the world of martial arts, Whindersson Nunes teamed up with Luta Pela Paz (LPP) in the mission to positively impact the lives of thousands of young people living in favelas and popular spaces throughout Brazil through sport. The actor, comedian, influencer and fighter became an ambassador for the project, which will hold Favela Champions next Sunday, October 29th, the first boxing and martial arts championship in the favelas. Whindersson will be the master of ceremonies for the event, which takes place at Arena Carioca 1, in Rio's Olympic Park.

The event will feature competitions in four fighting disciplines: boxing, jiu-jitsu, sports wrestling and muay thai. Each of them is made up of brackets with hundreds of athletes registered in search of their dream of achieving a place on the podium. To watch the fighting, simply bring 1kg of non-perishable food, which will be donated to families of children and young people served by Fight for Peace in Nova Holanda, one of the 16 favelas in Maré.
In addition to the tournaments, the event will open space for presentations by artists from Complexo da Maré, headquarters of the LPP, and a closing show. Children accompanied by their guardians will also have various activities on site, as well as food options.
Whindersson Nunes entered the world of martial arts at the beginning of 2022. His first challenge was against none other than former world boxing champion, Acelino “Popó” Freitas. After that, the comedian participated in High Stakes, an international boxing tournament with YouTube influencers. In his record, Whindersson has three fights: a draw with Popó, a victory over the Polish Filipek and defeats to the English King Kenny and the American My Mate Nate.
Favela Champions is an action of the Maré Unida project, which aims to contribute to the development of the potential of children, adolescents and young people in Maré through sport, education and personal development. It also promotes the qualification of the practices of socio-sport educators and organizations operating in Rio de Janeiro, using sport as a tool for human development. The project is carried out by Luta pela Paz with the sponsorship of Petrobras, through the Petrobras Socio-Environmental Program, through the State Sports Incentive Law of Rio de Janeiro. Luta pela Paz (LPP) is an NGO founded in 2000 in Complexo da Maré, in Rio de Janeiro, with the purpose of promoting the development of children and young people living in areas affected by violence and social inequality.
