The Brazilian, who is recovering from a deep cut in the eyebrow who took him from UFC 294, stated that his objective is still to fight against Islam makhachev, lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg.). However, he did not rule out the possibility of a rematch against Justin gaethje, his old rival, for the interim belt, if the Russian moves up in weight.
“I think it will be in January or February. It's the next fight. Islam (Makhachev) must fight in January or February, so that's what will happen. If Islam rises, they will definitely put an interim belt in place and I would have no problems facing it (Justin gaethje). I have respect for him as a fighter. He deserves all the respect in the world,” said Charles in an interview with The MMA Hour.
