Charles of the Bronx He still doesn't have a set date for his return to the Octagon, but he already knows who he wants to face in his next fight. The Brazilian, who is recovering from a deep cut in the eyebrow who took him from UFC 294, stated that his objective is still to fight against Islam makhachev, lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg.). However, he did not rule out the possibility of a rematch against Justin gaethje, his old rival, for the interim belt, if the Russian moves up in weight.

“I think it will be in January or February. It's the next fight. Islam (Makhachev) must fight in January or February, so that's what will happen. If Islam rises, they will definitely put an interim belt in place and I would have no problems facing it (Justin gaethje). I have respect for him as a fighter. He deserves all the respect in the world,” said Charles in an interview with The MMA Hour.

The Brazilian, however, continued in the event and submitted the North American in the first round. Months later, he took on the challenge of going to Abu Dhabi and fighting for the vacant belt against Islam makhachev.

In the clash, Do Bronx ended up being defeated in the second round and had to postpone his dream of resuming the throne. In 2023, after running over Beneil Dariush, the fighter once again qualified for a fight for the strap.
