Days after being physically fit and overcoming Fabricio Werdum in MMA without gloves, Junior Gypsy was forced to clarify a controversy on social media. After releasing images of syringes containing a certain liquid, the former UFC champion explained what the situation was about. The heavyweight claims that the recording took place after a medical examination, with the contents being the result of fluid being extracted from his knee.
“There are people asking about what liquid syringes are. There are some people asking and others confusing what it really is. I went to the doctor to check on a knee that has been bothering me for a while. He took the four syringes of liquid from inside my knee. Two large and two medium syringes filled with liquid. There are also little pieces of cartilage in that liquid. If that's true, we'll have to have an operation to clean out all the cartilage there. The knee was like that, but now we’re going to solve it”, said Cigano, on his Instagram profile.
In September, Junior returned to competing after more than a season of inactivity. Protagonist in Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA, the former UFC champion once again shared the cage with Fabricio Werdum 15 years after the first meeting.
Just like in 2008, Cigano won. Although he did not repeat the devastating knockout of the past, the fighter overcame the veteran in the judges' unanimous decision after three disputed rounds.
