Days after overcoming Wellington Turman No. UFC Las Vegas 75, Randy Brown made public yet another reason to celebrate. In an interview with 'The MMA Hour', the Jamaican revealed the expectation that his father will be released from prison after 30 years of incarceration. Today, the parent is serving a sentence in the state of Pennsylvania (USA).
“He was someone who was involved in a criminal organization, (…) ran drug-related operations. They committed crimes such as robberies, extortion, these types of situations. Eventually, they went after him. They gave three life sentences. (…) I see him a lot, around twice a month. People don't understand, but I had my father with me all my life, even when I was sent back to Jamaica, I spoke to him almost every day. Then I would go back to America in the summer and they would bring me to visit,” Brown said.
With his father's years in prison, Randy's family nightmare may be close to coming to an end. According to the fighter, the father may soon be released.
“I believe it will come out this summer (between June and August, in the United States), and then it’s over. He has been denied freedom in the past, but he has not been involved in any incident for 20 years. He has already undergone different rehabilitation programs and achieved a lot during these processes. Now, it is no longer a risk to society. He's a good man and he's completely changed. He gave his life to God. He served his sentence, he's been there a long time and a lot of the laws have changed. (…) He can be free now, to be with his family, with his grandchildren, see my son and future children”, he concluded.
An Ultimate representative since 2016, Randy is among the welterweights (up to 77,1kg) in Ultimate. The fighter, today, has accumulated four positive results in the last five fights.
