Former challenger for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg.), Justin gaethje may receive a third chance to compete for the category's linear belt. Scheduled for rematch against Dustin poirier, the fighter who has already won his last performance, can put himself in a great position in the rankings, if he manages to overcome his rival in the UFC 291. Present on the program 'DC&RC', the athlete analyzed possible scenarios that could lead him to fight the champion.
“These rankings are for a reason. They may not be as legit as we think they are, but he's number two, I'm number three. Number one is fighting number four, and the champion needs someone to fight. I think if Dariush wins, he will fight Islam makhachev in October, and the winner of my fight will fight the winner of that fight. If Charles wins, I think one of us will prepare for the title”, analyzed Gaethje.

If he is not sent to a possible title fight, it will be because he was probably defeated by his rival. Despite the chance, Gaethje dismissed the idea of possible retirement.
“I don’t want to put myself in a position where I have to think about whether I lose, but I wouldn’t imagine because the fire isn’t over. When I speak in these hyperboles, I am talking about the future. I'm talking about the reality of the situation. I have 35 fights in my career. I am 34 years old. There are many examples of going too far, and I have people around me who love me who will stop it. I trust them, and when they want to have that conversation, I will listen. For now, we are at full steam”, he concluded.
In a fight that marks a rematch between the athletes, Gaethje and Poirier will be responsible for captaining the UFC 291, on July 29th. Crowned by the best fight of the year in 2018, the athletes can once again receive the same prize, in a duel that marks the fight for the Ultimate BMF belt.
