In May 2020, Cejudo made his first defense of the bantamweight belt won about a year earlier against the Brazilian Marlon moraes. On the other side of the octagon was the veteran and former champion Dominick Cruz. With a strategy of using low kicks to undermine his rival's movement, he found it difficult to enter the 'Dominator's' range of action.

However, in the second round, Cejudo took advantage of a gap left in an attack by Cruz and landed a straight knee that led to his rival being knocked down. Henry attacked his opponent and punished him with a barrage of punches until referee Keith Peterson interrupted.
