Money? Status? Commentator questions why Cejudo would return from retirement

Despite believing in 'Triple C' abilities, Jon Anik doesn't see many goals for the fighter to aim for

Inactive for three years, Henry Cejudo announced retirement after winning Dominick Cruz and become a double UFC champion (flyweight and bantamweight). With his official return scheduled for May 6, the fighter caught the attention of Ultimate commentator Jon Anik. Confused by the scenario, the announcer questioned the real reason for 'Triple C' to return to the Octagon after achieving great things in his career.

“Why are you back? The objective is to be 'C4' and fight against Alexander Volkanovsky ou Yair Rodriguez and become a three-division champion to go along with his Olympic gold medal? The goal is to win aljamain sterling, that if he beats you, he's probably the greatest bantamweight of all time? Is the objective financial?”, Anik told MMA JunkieRadio.

Despite the questions, Anik believes in Cejudo's intelligence and is sure that regardless of his return, his skills will be present on the night of the UFC 288.

“I don't think he's going to give us any big revelations as far as his career goes (…) he's a brilliant, brilliant combat sports mind. I do not know why Henry Cejudo is back. I think money has to have a lot to do with it (…) he won't leave any stone unturned and, if he doesn't present the best version of himself, he'll be very close. I think the biggest issue may be the opponent”, concluded the commentator.

Escalated to face aljamain sterling on May 6, the former double champion will look to regain the belt he won in 2020. Despite the three-year inactivity, Cejudo expresses confidence on the eve of the duel.
