Almost a year after his last defeat, Justin gaethje seems to have not digested the episode. Finished by Charles of the Bronx No. UFC 274, the North American opened the game and claimed that his performance was affected after his training partner and friend, Rose namajunas having lost the belt in the previous fight in a duel against Carla esparza. In an interview with 'BT Sports', the athlete explained what he felt inside the Octagon.

“What held me back was having Rose go before me with her performance, I was really emotional. I was really shaken by this. I'm human, and emotions got to me. I didn't even recognize myself in the octagon that night, because the emotion factor overcame my ability to be perfect. I was far from perfect. Remembering it well, Rose's defeat absolutely surprised me. But when you're there, you don't know. Just try to be natural. This is naturally who we are as human beings, we are emotional. That’s the biggest challenge, going in there and being emotionless,” Gaethje said.
