In August of 2020, Jon Jones he gave up his 'reign' in the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg) to, after promises, dedicate his upward training to the heavyweight division (up to 120,2kg). Almost three years later, however, the North American has not yet debuted in the category, but he already knows that his debut will take place in UFC 285, on March 5, against Cyryl Gane.

In conversation on 'Twitter', Jones declared that he worked cautiously for his new version in MMA and, despite the period of inactivity, he feels ready to 'shock the world' by presenting his capabilities in the heavyweight division.

“One of the hardest things was not being able to lose shape while trying to gain 18 pounds. I think when fans see me, they'll be surprised that I still look a lot like I used to – (although) my shoulders are a lot broader. Just trying to maintain that form and do it the right way,” Jones said.

Champion with the most defenses in UFC history, alongside Demetrious Johnson, Jon Jones has not performed since February 2020, when he managed the eleventh defense of the light heavyweight belt against Dominick reyes. With contractual issues to be resolved with Ultimate, the champion chose to leave the belt vacant, step aside and return as a heavyweight.
