Ready to fight for the interim featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg), Yair Rodriguez is also keeping an eye on the category's linear champion's next fight, Alexander Volkanovsky. The Mexican fighter revealed that he will support the Australian in the duel against Islam makhachev, since a possible clash against an athlete who has two belts, would be something big for his record. The statement was made in an interview with 'MMA Junkie'.

“For me, it would be better Alexander Volkanovsky win, because if I manage to face him, it would be an even greater challenge. I would be fighting a double champion, right? So, for me, he better win. I have nothing against Islam or Volkanovski, in fact, quite the opposite. I have the greatest respect for them. May the best fighter win. But for me it would be beneficial Alexander Volkanovsky win, obviously. Just in terms of my career, I would like him to win,” Rodriguez said.
While Volkanovski will venture into the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg) to challenge the champion Islam makhachev, Yair Rodriguez e Josh Emmett will face each other for the interim belt in the featherweight division. Both clashes will be held at UFC 284, which is scheduled for February 11th. The show will take place in Perth, Australia (AUS).
