After the controversial draw against Jan Blachowicz which cost him the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg), Magomed Ankalayev announced a small change in his career. The Russian fighter announced the launch of his new account on a social network and revealed that he will become a more 'active in the media' athlete, since according to him, 'being a great fighter is not enough'.

“Hello everyone, this is my American account. Being a great fighter is not enough to get my title, I have to become a media asset too. The UFC is asking for it, and I’m going to do it,” wrote Magomed.
Still upset about the draw on December 10th, Ankalaev said he will learn a lot from the situation and promised to win the Ultimate belt in 2023.
“It was a learning experience. I'm not asking for handouts. I'm moving forward and I'm not going to leave this to the judges anymore. 2023: I will get the belt”, wrote the Russian fighter.
Third placed in the light heavyweight rankings, Ankalaev has not been defeated since March 2018 when he was submitted by the Scotsman Paul Craig. Since then, there have been nine wins and a draw in his last 10 fights. The Russian athlete has a record in the sport of 18 triumphs and only one setback as a professional in the sport.
