Cast at the last minute for UFC Las Vegas 63, Carlos Mota fails and loses in his debut

Representative of the flyweights, Brazilian has a lackluster performance and ends up being surpassed by Cody Durden in the judges' decision

Cast at the last minute to replace Kleydson Rodriguez in UFC Las Vegas 63, held this Saturday (29), Carlos Mota left something to be desired in his Ultimate debut. Opponent of cody durden on the preliminary card, the flyweight (up to 56,7kg) ended up largely dominated and succumbed to the strategy of his rival, who abused grappling. After three rounds, the North American was declared the winner with a unanimous decision by the judges.

With the defeat, Mota ended a sequence of two positive results. Former LFA champion, the Brazilian now has two setbacks in 10 matches played.

Victorious in a strategic clash, Durden achieved his second consecutive victory. The triumph also makes the fighter breathe a sigh of relief in Ultimate, as he only had two wins in five commitments.

The fight

The confrontation began with Durden taking the initiative with a high kick, which stopped in the Brazilian's guard. Still in the first minute, Cody landed a clean right on Carlos' face, who fell to the ground. The North American managed to pass the guard and was looking for transitions. Halfway through the stage, from below, Mota tried an armbar, but Durden defended himself well. Near the final minute, Cody started attacking with ground and pound, while the Brazilian native protected himself. The round ended with the North American pressed on top.

In the second round, Durden looked for a takedown in the opening seconds. The North American insisted on the action and pressed the Brazilian against the bars. Carlos ended up falling after new attacks from his rival. On top, Cody attacked with ground and pound and continued trying transitions. Near the final minute, Mota tried another armbar, but, again, Durden managed to defend himself. In the final seconds, the North American started attacking with blows from top to bottom, throwing punches and elbows at the Brazilian. The round ended with absolute dominance from Cody.

The last round began with Durden again attempting the takedown. The Brazilian, however, took advantage of his opponent's oversight and threatened a heel hook. Cody protected himself and reversed the position, managing to get to the back. The American struck and tried to find an opening for a rear-naked choke. With three minutes gone, Carlos managed to 'explode' and got to his feet. The Brazilian was betting on striking and wanted to recover from his initial losses. Almost in the final minute, Durden took down again and imposed a new disadvantageous position on the Tupiniquim. In the final seconds, Mota stayed on his feet, but there was no more time.

Protagonist in the fight that closed the preliminary card of the UFC Las Vegas 63, Roman Dolidze earned his reputation as a knockout artist. Representative of the middleweight category (up to 83,9 kg), the fighter took advantage of a possible knee injury in phil hawes and gave his rival no chance. Sharp in his striking, the fighter won the victory on the fast track, after a precise sequence of crosses.

With the victory, Dolidze extends the good moment. Now, the athlete has three positive results in a row.

After a balanced first round, Ju Yong Park 'opened his toolbox' to win yet another Ultimate. Opponent of Joseph Holmes on the preliminary card, the middleweight (up to 83,9kg) was patient and achieved victory on the fast track. With a rear naked choke in the second stage, the South Korean achieved a positive result.

With the triumph, Park expands his good moment. The athlete reaches the second positive result in a row.

A victim of Yong's jiu-jitsu, Holmes suffered his first setback with the Ultimate gloves. Before the defeat, the fighter had accumulated nine consecutive victories.

Famous for his excellent jiu-jitsu, Chase Hooper He took a risk in striking and ended up getting the worst of it. Opponent of Steve Garcia Jr. on the preliminary card, the 23-year-old ended up suffering a real massacre against his rival. Victim of the opponent's power and precision, the promise was overcome by technical knockout in the first round.

With the setback, Hooper had the warning signal turned on. The stumble marked the young man's third defeat in six appearances in Ultimate.

Protagonist of a gala performance, Garcia has plenty of reasons to celebrate. Before climbing into the Octagon for the UFC Las Vegas 63, the fighter had lost two of three commitments.

In his second appointment with the Ultimate gloves, Christian rodriguez breathes a sigh of relief in the organization. After losing in his debut, the athlete showed off his technique in the confrontation against newcomer Joshua Weems. Sharp in jiu-jitsu, the athlete took advantage of his rival's oversight to finish the fight with a hand triangle in the first round.

With the positive result, Rodriguez achieves his first UFC triumph. Revealed by 'Dana White's Contender Series', the athlete now has eight wins in nine appearances.

Overcome in the clash that opened the UFC Las Vegas 63, Joshua Weems was unsuccessful in his debut. The setback marked the fighter's third stumble in 14 challenges.
